Hans Zimmer didn't actually do this arrangement! A composer named Michael Levine did. He was working for Hans Zimmer at that time and a choir had been booked for The Simpsons Movie but because they were only singing on one cue, there was extra time available with them. So, Hans asked Michael to do a choir version of the song Homer sings earlier in the film. Hans’ only direction: “Make it beautiful. And short.” Hans later said (humorously) that “it saved the movie.”

The music was beautiful, but why did they only show the left side of the choir and not the entire choir?

Perhaps the most beautiful choral piece ever composed.

The singing was beautiful. The word change from "Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, Sancta Maria, ora pro nobis, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen" to the "Gloria Patri" (which they did not use the proper words for) is totally unnecessary and really takes away from the true meaning of the Angelus. If this is a protestant choir, they should know that it is a song and that you are not required to believe in the meaning of the words to sing it. JMO.

This is an incredibly difficult song to perform...I know, because I've done it. The difficulty is threefold. To begin with, it's in Russian which is not an easy language for anyone who isn't familiar with it. The song is also obviously very wordy...but what makes this song a killer is the way in which it (like many Russian songs) starts slow and then gradually accelerates until you're going very fast by the end.

I honestly don't understand how they managed to keep straight faces while singing this😂 The vehemently sung "lookout"! 👏👏👏🤣
